Opalescence bleaching gel has been proven effective against teeth discoloration caused by tetracycline staining (used to treat infections and to help control acne), dental fluorosis staining (due to excessive intake of fluoride substance from water, toothpaste or other sources) and blows. The gel also works against staining from coffee and other food products, as well as staining from tobacco.
How does it work?
A print is made of your teeth and a correct bleaching plate is produced, which will match your teeth with great precision. The bleaching plate is produced at a dental laboratory. It is a thin and soft plate which fits closely to your teeth and you will hardly feel it. When you bleach your teeth, the carbamide peroxide is decomposed and free oxygen molecules penetrate the colouring agents which are built into the tooth. The colouring agents are destroyed. The structure of the tooth is not altered. The only thing different is your teeth are now whiter.How long time does it take?
When you have visited the clinic and a print has been made of your teeth, it will take around three days before your bleaching plate is ready. The next step is that we adjust the plate to your teeth so you do not feel any discomfort. You will notice a difference in your teeth already after the first couple of times of using it. In general, you will achieve a natural white tooth colour after around 7 – 10 days. Are there any side-effects?
Some experience sensitivity in their teeth and gums while the bleaching is going on – especially to cold and warm foods and drinks. This sense of increased sensitivity is temporary and will normally go automatically in the course of a couple of days after completion of treatment.
How long does it last?
The durability of the bleaching depends in large part on yourself. The result can last for many years if you maintain good oral hygiene habits, brushing your teeth regularly, especially after you have consumed brightly coloured liquids of foods. If you are a smoker or drink large quantities of coffee, tea or red wine, you may need to repeat the bleaching plate treatment with gel once every other year.
Is it safe ?
Yes. The active substance in Opalescence is carbamide peroxide, which has been used to obtain a whiter smile with millions of people all over the world. The method has been evaluated in several clinical studies through the years with outstanding results. Opalescence complies with the requirements in the CE Marking (many products, production tools and equipment in the European market must be CE marked), medical eguipment, rated at 11A and is approved by the American Dental Association.
